The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia (MED) recently released data showing that in the first half of 2024, the registration of electric vehicles in Russia reached 52,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 27%, demonstrating the market's strong demand and acceptance of electric vehicles.
The MED is actively promoting a national-level electric vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle project, stimulating the popularization and application of electric vehicles through subsidies for the construction of new fast-charging stations, preferential loans for vehicle purchases, and leasing. Currently, 65 regions across Russia have participated in the project, jointly promoting the development of the electric vehicle industry.
In the past two years, Russia has produced 11,000 electric vehicles and built more than 5,000 electric charging stations nationwide, with 25% of the stations supporting fast charging services within 40 minutes, providing convenience for long-distance travel of electric vehicles.
In addition, the Russian government has also provided preferential policies for electric vehicle owners, exempting them from toll fees on national highways. From January to June of this year, the number of times electric vehicles passed through toll stations has exceeded the level of the whole year of 2023, reflecting the positive impact of policy support on the use of electric vehicles.
The MED stated that it will continue to increase support for the electric vehicle industry, promoting the sustainable development of the electric vehicle industry through policy guidance and market incentives, contributing to the green transformation of the Russian economy.
