MADRID, Oct. 14 — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared on Monday that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will continue its mission in southern Lebanon, reinforcing Spain's commitment to international peacekeeping efforts. "The withdrawal of UNIFIL forces from Lebanon is not on the agenda. Our dedication to the principles of international law, as outlined in Resolution 1701, is more relevant today than ever," Sanchez emphasized at an event in Barcelona. The Spanish leader urged the international community to stand in solidarity with the United Nations and to immediately cease arms shipments to Israel, a measure Spain has already implemented. General Carlos Hernandez, a Spanish commander, leads approximately 10,000 UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon, including over 600 Spanish troops. Sanchez also highlighted the importance of a two-state solution as the only feasible approach to resolving the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. His remarks come in contrast to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's call on Sunday for the United Nations to withdraw UNIFIL from southern Lebanon.
