BRUSSELS, Oct. 14 — British Foreign Secretary David Lammy's presence at a European Union (EU) council meeting today in Luxembourg signifies a "reset" in the UK's relationship with the EU, a historic moment according to Lammy.
"Today marks our EU reset, a historic moment," Lammy expressed. "I am delighted to engage with the 27 member states and their foreign ministers on critical European security issues. The security of the UK and Europe is indivisible."
This meeting marks the first time a British foreign secretary has attended a regular EU foreign ministers' meeting since the Brexit, reflecting the Labour party's initiative for a "reset" with Europe, as reported by British media.
In a joint article published on Monday, Lammy and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, emphasized the ambition for the EU and the UK to become closer security partners. "We need to strengthen our cooperation across the full range of foreign and security challenges we face as a continent," they wrote.
Borrell highlighted that conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East will be the primary topics of discussion at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
